And now, a little change of pace...
So, about a week ago I was on the L from Brooklyn to Manhattan, stuffed in the doorway -- my preferred position for a few reasons. 1.) personal space rules usually apply there, and only there, even during rush hour 2.) because I can balance my coffee while leaning on the rail/door combo to read my book or press my shitty earbuds further into my ear to hear Ira Glass more clearly 3.) have a 'facing' position on the train (meaning, aside from the Twister -like poses some people (especially short people) are forced to take, it's hard to people-watch without looking obvious or like a perv or obviously like a perv anywhere else)
...so anyway, last week I was in this spot, pressing my earbuds deep into my ears when I got caught people watching and so I looked down to prove my non-perviness and realized that my door-hugging-buddy had the words "me" and "you" marked on the rubber toes of his Chuck Taylors.
I stared at them for a while trying to figure out why it was significant or familiar or cliche -- I couldn't remember which let alone why. Until last night, when I was trying to fall asleep, it came to me. (Or, maybe not it, just one reference to 'it.')
From Me and You and Everyone We Know (am I alone -- I mean in loving the movie) I especially love that scene. *sigh* sad as it is -- or is it optimistic?
There you have it. My obligatory post of the month.
